Top 5 Décor Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Wedding
Choosing The Wrong Venue!
The Venue may be beautiful but does it suit your style and personality, does it accommodate your choice of styled seating and table layout? Finding the perfect venue is key to creating the right ambiance and reflect your style. We had a bride who chose a very traditional style venue but was hoping for a sleek contemporary style. We had suggested full room draping to compensate and make it look more contemporary and luckily that did the trick. However had it not been for our creative thinking, she could’ve been one disappointed bride!
Going Trendy, Even If It’s Not You.
Finding your personal wedding style can be difficult especially with all the glorious Pinterest photos and Ideas streaming the net. Let’s imagine that your wedding is the epitome of 2015 trends. What if that’s not a real reflection of you. If you’re not into lace and pastels why would you project this during the most important day of your life. Photos and memories last a lifetime. Best way to choose your wedding style is to look in your closet! Yes your closet says everything about your style. We worked with a bride who was so overwhelmed when faced with all the choices for décor that she was literally in tears. We quickly stepped into the process and advised her to forget about what Brad and Angelina did for their wedding and incorporated , their own style to the decor. I gave her the closet tip (Search your closet, take a good look at your clothing and accessories your wardrobe says so much about your personality and style!) Guess what? it worked! The couples’ wedding was boho chic and reflected the couples style perfectly!
DIY On The Day of Your Wedding? Ugh!.
We are all up for a good craft and DIY, Pre Wedding! Love crafts and want to show your guest you are the next DIY Star, then yes go for it but in moderation. Designing and planning a wedding is hard work, you do not need the added stress of ensuring that you made enough centerpieces, that you bought enough fabric and ribbon for the chair covers and favor boxes. Some things are best to leave in the hands of a professional. You are a bride, not a designer, enjoy the day not worrying about delivering setting up and taking it all down at the end of your magical wedding! Also DO NOT enlist family member to do these tasks, even though they are begging you now, it is so stressful to have this responsibility on the day of the wedding, they will resent it. After all, who wants to be sweating and rushing after they just got their hair done ? After repeatably seeing this happen in front of our eyes, we knew it had to stop. We now offer a service to our clients in which they can hire a day of assistant the day of their wedding. Totake on the task of setting out wedding items and ensuring quality of all your wedding extras such as menus places cards, favors ect. Do not enlist family members because really, isn’t it their day too?
Budget Budget Budget
So you have a budget for flowers and décor. Where did you come up with this magical number? You have a 300 person wedding, you want Jessica Simpson’s Wedding Centerpieces and wildflower décor, and you only have $4000 dollars to spend? This is the biggest mistake you can make. You will not get the desired you look you are so hoping for. If you have a modest budget, do some research on what good quality services cost. If you are constantly searching high end designers and high style inspiration but do not have the budget to back it up, You will be very disappointed on the day of your wedding. Save up and live your dreams. When we have clients who come to us with high expectations of a lavish setting but do not have the money to back it up, we educate them on the cost. We help them build their budget strategically: if that midnight slider buffet isn’t top priority and is costing $1,500.00, we have the couple cut it out of the budget and put it towards something that they really care about.
The Kijiji Bride
Who doesn’t love Kijiji. I know I do. It is my go to site to search for many things. Weddings, not so much. No offense to anyone listed on Kijiji but this is not the way to go if you are looking for exactly what you want and more.. Couples are searching on Kijiji and then visiting companies who Do not advertise on Kijiji and expect the prices to be the same. This is not the case. You will find low unrealistic prices on Kijiji, Remember that saying, you get what you pay for, well it is true!
A couple who loved our work but couldn’t afford us at the time decided to go with another decorator, at way below our cost. Not to our surprise we received an email two months after their wedding, telling us how disappointed they were at their décor and how they wished they could have gone back and spent the additional $2k on what they really wanted. Luckily, talk of a wedding renewal is in the air for them and even though they never got to work with us, they continue to refer their friends to us. In Toronto an industry standard price for day of coordination is approx. $1,200.00 But on Kijiji it is $500.00 Hmmm? Good deal? Or a disaster waiting to happen?Incidentally, don’t believe everything you see and here’s the proof. The other day, an ad on Kijiji caught our attention. It said “Full Wedding Package “ which included a 12 person head table and a 20x 24 backdrop etc. For Only $1,000!!!! To My surprise our own company’s wedding décor pictures had been used to represent the design. Wow If they are lying on their ads what else are they lying about? You choose this $1,000 package and expect the work you saw online however what you receive is far from what you thought. If you are as passionate about your flowers and décor as we are, do not chance it by trying to save a little cash now and comprise or potentially jeopardize your dream vision. This is your wedding, you only get one shot at it, and the decision you make while planning and booking vendors can make or break your day.
